Cricut FAQ

How Do I Use the "custom" Setting On the Smart Set Dial?

The "Custom" setting on the Smart Set dial allows you to select a pre-programmed custom material, or create your own custom setting.

When you are cutting a material which is not listed on the Smart Set Dial, you can set the dial to Custom, and then click Make It from Design Space. From the cut preview screen, you can select the material if it is listed in the drop-down menu.

How Do I Link Cartridges In Cricut Design Space?

Cricut Explore and Maker machines were designed to work with Cricut Design Space, rather than as stand-alone machines. However, you can still use your cartridge content with these machines in Design Space. Simply link your cartridges to your account through Cricut Design Space using your Cricut Explore machine or the Cricut Cartridge Adapter. Select a device below for linking instructions.

How Do I Cut One Image Out Of Another Image (slice)?

The Slice tool splits two overlapping images or text into different parts. Slice creates new cut paths from two images, resulting in three or more completely new shapes. Each of the new shapes will show up in the Layers panel as an individual layer.

  • You can use the Slice tool to cut out a shape from another shape, cut overlapping shapes from one another, or to cut text from a shape.
  • When using Slice with images, you can only work with two layers at one time.
  • If you are using a multilayered image, you can either hide or ungroup the other layers to activate the Slice tool.
  • When the Slice function is performed with hidden layers, all hidden layers will be removed from the design screen and the Layers panel.
  • If you would like to use those image layers with your project, ungroup before using the Slice tool.

How Do I Tell My Machine to Cut, Write, Score, Or Print?

Telling your Explore or Maker machine to cut, write, score, or Print Then Cut is easy! All of these functions are referred to as "Line Type." The line type determines if the layer or text will cut, write, score, or Print Then Cut in your final project. It is represented by a symbol next to the layer thumbnail in the Layers panel.

Which Materials Can I Cut With My Cricut Explore and Maker Machine?

Cricut Explore & Maker machines cut so many materials that the only limit is your imagination. From something as delicate as notebook paper to thick leather, these amazing machines can do it all.

Select a machine from the drop-down menu to view a list of materials that can be cut on the Cricut Explore or Cricut Maker, and for which we have created a setting in Design Space. The recommended blade type, cutting pressure, and multi-cut setting for various materials are included. We are always testing new materials and will continue to add to this list.

How Do I Print Then Cut In Design Space?

Bring a world of color to your project with the Print Then Cut feature. Print your images on your home printer and then watch your Cricut Explore cut them out with high precision - no scissors required!
