Denby FAQ

What is the Status Of My Denby Order?

Once your order has been placed, your order status will remain as "Submitted to Fulfillment" until your order is processed and dispatched.  Once dispatched, your order status will update to "Fulfilled" and you will receive an email notification. If you have created an account prior to placing your order, you can log in to view your order status and order history under My Account.

What is a Second Or Near Perfect Item?

If color varies beyond our strict tolerance levels or even has the slightest imperfection such as a spot of uneven color, we designate that product as a "second". The quality of a second is extremely high, every piece has the same durability as first quality with no chips or cracks. All characteristics that make a piece a second are superficial blemishes or color variations that do not affect the use of Denby in any way.

How Long Will a Pattern Be Available for and How Will I Know If the Pattern I Collect is to Be Discontinued?

Denby gives its customers one years notice of discontinuation on all patterns and operates The Denby Collector's Promise - register your details and the Denby pattern you collect with us and we will tell you, 12 months in advance, of any plans to stop making it. The Denby Collector's Promise offers many other benefits - see the 10 Year Guarantee page for details.

Can Denby Glass Be Used In the Dishwasher?

The color in Denby glass is created by rolling clear glass in colored chips and melting them so that they fuse. The result makes the color permanent and irremovable, and because it contains no lead, Denby glass is safe for use in the dishwasher. Again we recommend the use of low temperatures and liquid detergents in the dishwasher.

Why is There an Appearance Of Grey Lines On My Denby Dishes?

This is a common issue that is actually related to the flatware you are using and affects mostly white or light faced plates which tend to show metal marks rather than actual scratches.  The flatware being used is softer than the glaze on the dishes.  Denby glazes are extremely hard and over time some of the metal actually gets left behind on the plate.  This will occur depending on the nickel content of the flatware.  The higher the nickel content the more likely chance of the grey/black lines  appearing.   Luckily, these markings can be removed in most cases with a little extra cleaning power using a sponge or nylon scrubby and a mild abrasive such as Soft Scrub, Bar Keeper’s Friend, Bon Ami or Ceramabryte every once in a while.

Why is There Color Variation In Some Denby Patterns?

Denby stoneware is a handmade product and therefore could result in color variations from piece to piece. A difference of 1/1000th of an inch in glaze thickness can cause a slight variation in color when the piece is fired. Color variations sometimes occur naturally during manufacture and are part of the intrinsic beauty of our unique line. Please also keep in mind, since computer screens vary, the actual glaze colors may differ from those on your screen.

Which Domestic Appliances is Denby Safe for Use In?

Denby can be safely used for cooking food in a microwave (it is not recommended that the microwave is used for warming plates), oven and for use in the fridge, freezer and dishwasher. Denby recommends using liquid detergents in your dishwasher. All pottery and china can crack if exposed to sudden changes in temperature, no matter how strong it is, so please don't take items from the freezer and put them straight into the oven or microwave, or expose to direct heat sources such as the burner or grill.
