With some printer models, black areas might be printed with a mix of black and color inks to decrease grain. Additionally, a little ink from all the ink cartridges is used in periodic servicing tasks. This helps to prevent issues such as printhead clogs and poor print quality.
Most printers that use integrated printhead (IPH) ink cartridges can print without a tri-color ink cartridge. To print with black ink only, remove the tri-color ink cartridge, and then acknowledge the Single Cartridge Mode message that displays on the printer control panel or computer.
To avoid paper jams, do not print on both sides of transparencies, envelopes, photo paper, glossy paper, paper lighter than 60 g/m2 (16 lb) and paper heavier than 105 g/m2 (28 lb).
Create a new custom shortcut in the Document Properties or set defaults for all print jobs in the HP driver.
To create a custom shortcut (if the Printing Shortcut tab is available), click one of the print job shortcuts, change any of the settings, click User Specified Print Settings, then click Save as.
