What Makes Them Glow?

Updated:

Pieces in Glow Collection contain strontium aluminate, a natural crystal powder that glows after being charged with light. It is non-toxic and often used in luxury Swiss watches due to its excellent performance: it’s about 10 times brighter and glows about 10 times longer than copper activated zinc sulfide (another popular glow-in-the-dark powder).

Which Colors Glow the Brightest?

Updated:

Strontium aluminate naturally produces green and aqua hues. If you want to get technical, it’s green formulation has a wavelength of 520 nm and its aqua formulation has a wavelength of 505 nm. Blue has a wavelength of 490 nm. In plain English that means green glows the brightest, turquoise lasts the longest, and blue does well on both but is not quite as bright as green or as long-lasting as turquoise. Other colors can be made with strontium aluminate, as with our purple Lume ring, but glow times and brightness are a bit lower, as you get away from the colors strontium aluminate naturally produces.

What’s the Best Way to Charge My Glow Ring?

Updated:

Glow rings glow best when charged with a strong UV flashlight. The next best option is sunlight, though it takes a little longer to charge the ring completely.

How Long Do Glow Rings Glow?

Updated:

Glow times vary, depending on how a ring is charged, how long it’s charged, and what color it is. However, when charged for 10-15 seconds with a strong UV flashlight, all rings should glow brightly for several minutes followed by an afterglow that lasts 1-2 hours. The ring is rechargable for 10+ years. If you receive a ring that does not seem to be glowing properly, please let Carbon6 know right away and Carbon6 will be more than happy to replace it for you.

When Will My Ring Ship?

Updated:

Most rings ship within two business days. However, because all of rings are hand-made in small batches, if a size is out of stock it can sometimes take up to 7 to 10 business days to ship. If you have a pressing event, such as a wedding, please let Carbon6 know at support@carbon6rings.com and Carbon6 will do everything Carbon6 can to accommodate.

What is Damascus Steel?

Updated:

Damascus steel is created by hammer-welding strips of steel and iron or two different kinds of steel together, then repeatedly heating and forging the material to create a new, stronger steel. After the forging process is complete, the material can be given an acid bath, allowing acid to eat away at the steel to reveal the unique look created by the forging process and creating a slightly raised pattern.

Can You Engrave Rings?

Updated:

Unfortunately Carbon6 does not currently offer engraving services, however carbon fiber and silver rings can be engraved at your local jeweler's shop with a standard laser engraver, and the Damascus Steel rings can be engraved with a diamond point engraver. Carbon Lume rings can also be engraved with a standard laser engraver, but since Lume interiors are made of a material unfamiliar to most jewelers, some jewelers may not feel comfortable engraving them.

What is Forged Carbon Fiber?

Updated:

Forged Carbon Fiber was first unveiled by Lamborghini in 2010, as a solution for making light-weight high-performance parts for their luxury sports cars. The word “Forged” in the title comes from the fact that the material is formed by taking carbon fiber and, as with forging metal, applying both heat and pressure to mold it into new shapes. Lamborghini’s process is proprietary, so at Carbon 6 Carbon6 had to build on the research available and develop our own proprietary process to create Forged Carbon Fiber that would capitalize on carbon fiber’s strength and lightness while giving the material a beautiful marbling pattern, instead of the typical woven pattern usually seen in carbon fiber products.
